Twisted Universe

The world is twisted. Local governments complain that they can't hold elections because they don't get enough volunteers to work the polls on election day. True. Local governments complain that they can't have trials because they don't get enough people turning out for jury duty. True.

I've never actually served on a jury. But I'd like to. True.

For years I've worked as a volunteer on election day as a poll worker. True.

Guess what? I got my first jury summons yesterday for October 7, 2003. The same county that wants me to serve on a jury also wants me to work the polls on October 7, 2003.

Now I need to call the elections office and tell them that I need an absentee ballot because I may be having to serve jury duty.
